How to optimize your linkedin profile

LinkedIn is where recruiters first look. Your LinkedIn profile should be easy to find and easily readable by potential employers. Although it is simple to create a LinkedIn profile, few people know how LinkedIn searches work. LinkedIn searches prefer complete profiles. Therefore, it is important that you use all options and fields available to you.

Don’t Forget The Basics

You will need to fill out a number of spaces in order to open a LinkedIn account. These include: your name, headline, projects, experience, education, etc.

Your LinkedIn profile will highlight the keywords that you have used to attract potential recruiters.

Name

People make the mistake of not taking the basics seriously. Instead of using their last, first and middle names, some people enter their nicknames, or funny references to job titles. This is a huge mistake you must avoid. This is not a place to have fun. You will be closely monitored by potential recruiters.

Headline

Your LinkedIn profile’s headline is the most prominent section. This section introduces you to recruiters, whether its newsfeed posts, the “People You May Not Know Section”, or job applications. A good LinkedIn headline will make a positive impression, while a bad one can reduce your chances of getting hired. It is important to be careful with the keywords you choose for this section. Your current job should only require a few keywords.

If you have multiple positions in the experience section, your profile will be viewed 29 times more.

Here are some more tips to help you showcase your experience.

Highlighting your past work experience is not enough. You can’t ignore freelance work or one-off projects you have done.

You must include in your experience section whether you have held multiple positions within a company.

You can add more positions to the Experience section by clicking on the Add button.
